Daria Gabriel has spent most of her life between New Orleans, LA and the west coast. She studied at the University of New Orleans and then continued at Claremont Graduate School in Southern California, where she received her MFA. Her first installation was at the Contemporary Art Center in New Orleans and featured a sound piece that received much praise. Following the exhibition, she collaborated with various punk rock bands in the 80′s, turning her attention to film. She helped produce several video documentaries for PBS, and created a number of video installations. In the mid-90′s, Daria began working extensively with painting and sculpting and has continued since, attracting private collectors in the United States and Europe. Daria has participated in artist residency programs for museums and organizations within the San Francisco Bay Area, the South of France, and Paris, FR. She has recently spent time in Berlin to collaborate with other artists and musicians on upcoming projects. In addition to working on her own art, Daria has spent a large portion of her time engaging children and young adults in classes and programs designed to bring art into a broader community. While she still continues to paint, most of Daria’s upcoming work features photography, film, and sound pieces.
