Marcus Jake Riley is in his second year studying as a mature student for a BA in Photography.

“Art has always been part of my life, I found myself at crossroads where I could make life changing decisions without it effecting anybody else, this led to me going to university, to put all my time into the thing I love the most, art / photography”.
In his short career as a photographer Marcus has already won three awards in major international competitions and this year is working on a collaborative exhibition based on his body of work titled ‘Distress’.
“Photography is a major part of my process, it is the foundation of everything that I do. I use traditional film in various formats as well as digital. The project I am doing will normally dictate the format I use. I am also immensely interested in mixing mediums. I like to experiment and I like making mistakes. I am far more interested in the imperfection than the perfection, although I believe you need to be a perfectionist in your process even if that process is to allow the imperfections to come through.”
“I’ve lived in Rugby, Coventry, Brighton, London and have settled for the time being in Bristol. I start things, I stop things. I can be socially retarded, I can be the idiot, the fool, the problem and the answer. I am obsessive. Sometimes I am a complete mess and sometimes I am completely together, in a zone, on form, unstoppable, a machine with a concise conscious that dreams only beautiful things…“
